Android 17: These Phones Won’t Get the Update

The next major system update, Android 17, is just around the corner – and it’s eagerly awaited. However, not every smartphone will receive the latest version of Google’s operating system. While new models are usually supported for five to seven years, some devices will drop out of the update cycle in 2026.

This makes it all the more important to check if your device will get Android 17 or if it’ll miss out. To help, we’ve compiled this list of the main manufacturers (which is by no means exhaustive, as there are so many!).

Take note: Many manufacturers haven’t yet published final Android 17 roadmaps. The following overview is based on official update commitments, known support periods and current Android 17 forecasts. For an overview of all devices set to receive Android 17, check our full list here.

Google Pixel

Owners of a Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro or 6a can breathe a sigh of relief, as Google has extended support for these models. You’ll be getting Android 17 after all. However, the following Pixel models are not expected to receive the Android 17 update:

• Pixel 5a
• Pixel 5
• Pixel 4a 5G
• Pixel 4a
• Older Pixel models

Time to upgrade? Try the Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10a or an older Pixel 9, which will still receive five Android updates.

Samsung Galaxy

Although Samsung provides updates for its smartphones for quite a long time, older flagship models, foldables and mid-range devices are notably excluded and will no longer receive Android 17:

• Galaxy S22 series
• Galaxy S21 series, including the S21 FE
• Galaxy Z Fold4, Z Flip4, Z Fold3 and Z Flip3
• Galaxy A53, A33, A23, A13
• Galaxy A52, A52 5G, A52s
• Older Galaxy A, M and F models

Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco

With Xiaomi, it’s a bit harder to say which smartphones won’t get Android 17. Update promises can vary depending on the series and region. However, these models are likely to miss out:

• Xiaomi 12, Pro, X, T, T Pro
• Xiaomi 11T, T Pro
• Mi 11 series
• Redmi Note 12 series
• Redmi Note 11 series
• Poco F4, X5 and X5 Pro
• Older Poco M and Poco C models

Time to upgrade? New releases include the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, plus the Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro.

Oppo

These Oppo models are very unlikely to be included in the Android 17 update:

• Oppo Find X5, X5 Pro and X3
• Oppo Reno8 series
• Oppo Reno9 series
• Older Reno models
• Older A models, such as the A76, A77 and A78
• Older Find X and Find N models

Time to upgrade? The Oppo Find X9 Pro impressed us, but it is pricey.

Honor

Honor

At Honor, devices from the following generations are likely to be phased out:

• Honor Magic4 series
• Honor 70
• Honor 90
• Honor X7 series
• Honor X8 series
• Honor X9 series
• Older Honor X models

Time to upgrade? The Honor Magic 8 Pro is a compelling choice as a high-performance, premium smartphone. In the mid-range, the Honor 400 and Honor 400 Pro are good options.

OnePlus

OnePlus

These OnePlus smartphones are unlikely to receive Android 17:

• OnePlus 10 Pro, T and R
• OnePlus 9, Pro and RT
• OnePlus Nord 3
• OnePlus Nord 2 and 2T
• Older Nord CE models

Time to upgrade? The new OnePlus 15 is one of the fastest phones we’ve recently tested and is expected to receive four more Android updates (including Android 17).

Motorola

Motorola

From Motorola, older Edge and Moto G models are among those likely to lose out:

• Motorola Edge 40 and 40 Pro
• Motorola Edge 30 series
• Moto G84, G73 and G72
• Moto G62, G54 and G53
• Older Moto G models

Time to upgrade? The Motorola Signature has plenty of power and performance.

Nothing

The list for Nothing is pleasingly short, as most models will receive Android 17. Only these are excluded:

• Nothing Phone (1)
• Nothing Phone (2)
• CMF Phone 1

Time to upgrade? Take a look at the new Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro.

Sony Xperia

Sony

Sony traditionally provides updates for shorter periods than many of its competitors. These models are therefore unlikely to receive any updates:

• Xperia 1 V
• Xperia 5 V
• Xperia 10 V
• Xperia 1 IV
• Xperia 5 IV
• Xperia 10 IV
• Older Xperia models

Time to upgrade? Consider the Sony Xperia 1 VII.

Realme

Realme

These Realme models are unlikely to receive Android 17:

• Realme GT 2, Pro
• Realme GT Neo 3, 3T
• Realme 10 series
• Realme 11 series
• Realme C55 and C53
• Older Realme C models
• Older Narzo models

Asus

Asus

The list for Asus is fairly short. These models are unlikely to be supported by Android 17:

• Zenfone 10
• Zenfone 9
• ROG Phone 8, Pro
• ROG Phone 8 Pro
• ROG Phone 7, Ultimate
• Older ROG and Zenfone models

Time to upgrade? Asus has withdrawn from the smartphone market for the time being, so you should look to other manufacturers. We have recommendations for the best phones, the best mid-range phones and the best budget phones.

Vivo

Vivo has provided little official information regarding the availability of Android 17. However, these models may miss out:

• Vivo V30, Pro
• Vivo V29, V29 Pro
• Vivo V27, Pro
• Vivo X90, X90 Pro
• Vivo X80 series
• Older Vivo Y models prior to 2024
• Older Vivo T models

Time to upgrade? We’d recommend the Vivo X300 as an excellent camera phone.

But you may not need to upgrade just yet

If you’re using a smartphone from 2022 or earlier, you should take a closer look: many of these devices will still get Android 16, but not Android 17. Older flagship models such as the Galaxy S22, OnePlus 10 Pro, Xiaomi 12 or Sony Xperia 1 V are likely to be affected, as are many mid-range devices from 2021 to 2023.

Important: Just because you no longer receive Android updates doesn’t mean your device is insecure. You can continue to use it for as long as it receives security updates. So, the first thing to do is to check whether you will still receive those.
