Creed spin-off show gets production update

Prime Video has ordered Delphi, the first live-action series extension of the Creed universe.

Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society will executive produce the coming-of-age drama series. Jordan announced the project during Amazon’s upfront presentation, as reported by Variety, and confirmed production will begin in Los Angeles on May 18.

The series centres on young boxers training at the Delphi gym from the Rocky and Creed movies. The Delphi Boxing Academy, a Los Angeles gym originally founded by Tony “Duke” Evers, served as the longtime training ground for Apollo Creed. Duke’s son, Tony “Little Duke” Evers, now operates the gym where Adonis Johnson Creed also trains.

Marco Ramirez will serve as showrunner for Delphi and will executive produce alongside Jordan. Ramirez recently created and served as showrunner on the Hulu boxing drama La Maquina. His other credits include Daredevil, The Defenders, and Fear the Walking Dead. Liz Raposo will also executive produce for Outlier Society alongside Winkler Films’ Irwin Winkler, David Winkler, and Charles Winkler.

Michael B. Jordan is developing Delphi with his frequent collaborator, Ryan Coogler. During the upfront event, Jordan recalled how Coogler first approached him about playing Adonis Creed. Even before its debut, the coming-of-age series secured a Season 2 renewal.

Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, said, “Showrunner Marco Ramirez and executive producer Michael B. Jordan are creating something exceptional for longtime Creed fans and newcomers alike.”

Delphi will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The studio has not yet announced a premiere date or cast. Across three installments, the Creed franchise has earned more than $660 million at the global box office.
