Halsey to star in new psycho-sexual horror movie Replacer
Halsey is reportedly set to headline Replacer, co-written by her fiancé and actor-filmmaker, Avan Jogia, who is also directing, as per Deadline. Independent Edge’s Kyle Mann is producing with Isabelle Deluce (Soft Focus Films) and Damiano Tucci (Getaway Entertainment), in association with Anarchists United. Olivier Picard and David Pierrat of Parce Que Films serve as co-producers.
Meanwhile, Lilly Wachowski will serve as an executive producer alongside Anthony Li, Lawrence Mattis, Sarah Flores, Christopher Rentia, Emily McCann Lesser, and Clay Epstein.
Sales are scheduled to take place at the Cannes market this week. CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group are repping North American rights. Meanwhile, Film Mode Entertainment is overseeing international sales. Halsey and Jogia will both be present to support the launch and meet with buyers.
Jogia has described the film’s tone and style as “a bright and electric club horror mashed together with a vulnerable romantic story about belonging and community.” He added, “Come together. Leave as one.”
“Stranded in Montreal, Proxy, a troubled DJ, meets an alluring artist and his group of friends who run an underground radio station,” the official synopsis reads. “The station’s broadcast becomes warped by a mysterious signal hidden deep beneath the city’s subway system. Proxy must escape before the sound turns her, and her new friends, into something raw, primal, and unrecognizable.”
Meanwhile, Halsey was last seen in Ti West’s horror film, MaXXXine, appearing opposite Mia Goth. She also featured in Tony Tost’s crime thriller, Americana, starring Sydney Sweeney.
Jogia last starred opposite Dove Cameron in the Amazon Prime Video thriller, 56 Days. He is currently awaiting the release of A24’s Backrooms, arriving May 29, 2026. The latter also features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell.
