Richard Walters, a former Republican National Committee official, is joining the Trump White House as a deputy chief of staff, an administration official confirmed on Friday.
Walters, who is close with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, is leaving a consulting job at FGS Global to join the administration as the focus in the West Wing turns toward the midterm elections in November.
Although he will not have a specific portfolio, he is expected to take over some of the work overseen by former deputy chief of staff James Blair, who recently took a temporary leave of absence to focus on the president’s political operations from outside the White House.
Axios was first to report Walters’ hire.
