Kellie Pickler Returns to the Stage for First Time Since Husband Kyle Jacobs’ Death
This small town girl is back where it all began.
Kellie Pickler returned to American Idol on May 4 to duet with Hannah Harper, who snagged a spot on this season’s Top 5. Together, the duo sang “A Broken Wing” by Martina McBride, paying homage to the year Kellie competed on the show to fit in with the “Class of 2006” theme of the night.Â
“I’m an antique Idol dustin’ off,” she said after the performance, telling Hannah, “Being able to share the stage with you has been such a blessing.”
The “Best Days of Your Life” singer, who placed sixth during her time on Idol, wasn’t the only season five alum to return to the show. Former finalists Elliott Yamin, Paris Bennett, Bucky Covington and winner Taylor Hicks came back to do their own duets with the current competitors.
If that wasn’t exciting enough, OG judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul also made their Idol comebacks, serving as guest judges during the episode.Â
This was a rare appearance for the Small Town Girl artist, who has largely kept out of the spotlight following the death of her husband Kyle Jacobs in 2023. She last performed publicly during a Patsy Cline tribute in 2024.
