Amazon One Medical integrates new GLP-1 program with primary care

Amazon One Medical has launched a GLP-1 management program that integrates primary care, pharmacy services and virtual care options to simplify the patient experience.

The program aims to address common GLP-1 pitfalls, such as fragmented care and unclear costs, by integrating GLP-1 management into patients’ broader primary care relationships and combining care with Amazon Pharmacy. The GLP-1 management program is now available at One Medical locations across the U.S.

“Providing customers with fast, convenient medication access and clear, transparent pricing is integral to how Amazon Pharmacy is transforming the pharmacy experience,” Tanvi Patel, vice president and general manager of Amazon Pharmacy, said in a press release. “By expanding access to the latest GLP-1 medications with upfront, clear pricing, we’re making it easier for customers to get the treatments their healthcare providers prescribe and to stay on those medications because they are delivered reliably directly to patients.”

Having GLP-1s managed through primary care also helps proactively manage how weight loss intersects with cardiovascular health, metabolic conditions and overall health, the announcement said. Through the program, patients will get a pre-visit screening, consultations and regular follow-ups with integrated monitoring. What this monitoring entails was not immediately clear from the press release.

Amazon Pharmacy offers Wegovy and Foundayo oral GLP-1 pills, with insurance coverage starting as low as $25 a month, or cash pay starting at $149 a month, for both oral medications. Also available are Wegovy injectables, the Zepbound auto-injector and KwikPen, with cash pay starting at $299 a month. All medications are available for quick delivery to all 50 states, with nearly 3,000 cities having same-day delivery available. This option will expand to nearly 4,500 cities by the end of 2026.

Patients in the GLP-1 program will get their prescription renewals through their primary care clinician. For those who aren’t One Medical primary care patients, but already have a prescription, they can get on-demand telehealth prescription renewals starting at $29 for message consultations or $49 for video care.

Customers will be able to compare insurance and cash-pay prices at checkout, with manufacturer coupons automatically applied to those eligible. Amazon Pharmacy customers have saved over $200 million through the automatic coupon program to date, the company said.

As of earlier this year, One Medical members can also access an agentic AI health assistant, Health AI, which can answer medical questions, explain health records, manage prescription renewals and book appointments. When professional care is needed, Health AI can connect patients directly to One Medical providers through message, video or in-person. For prescription renewals, it can send requests to a patient’s One Medical provider. One Medical membership is not required for scheduled in-person or remote appointments.
