“Am I having a hallucination?” Audiences across the world are grabbing their handbag popcorn buckets and heading to theaters to see some of their favorite fashionistas back on the big screen, and most of them haven’t been disappointed. With a Popcornmeter score of 87%, fans say the sequel is a comforting throwback that offers the right amount of nostalgia while remaining highly relevant 20 years later.

With one audience member writing that the movie “is like a warm hug,” another saying the film “deserves its place on the pedestal,” and a handful hoping for a third, it’s safe to say that most audiences are thrilled with the sequel and Streep’s performance once again.

You don’t have to gird your loins for this. Here’s what audiences are saying about The Devil Wears Prada 2.

How are the performances?

Miranda Priestly is as delightfully mean as ever. Andrea has matured and is notably not cowed by Miranda. Emily continues to be self-absorbed, but Andi breaks through. If you loved Prada 1, you’ll enjoy Prada 2!

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a great movie. It really doesn’t matter if you saw the first one cause they kind of catch you up with certain scenes. The new characters were excellent. Go with friends and family to watch and discuss afterward to see if you missed certain parts.

Meryl Streep was so good! She made the Movie! The assistant played her part so well! I don’t want to give away what happens. But it’s definitely a must-see, good, funny movie!

Is it better than the first?

I did not love it as much as I loved the first one, but it’s definitely a great movie. I had hoped the redhead twins would’ve made their adult debut. The fashion is incredible. The storyline was decent, but definitely could’ve been stronger. If you’re a DWP fan, definitely go see it.
— Karrah, 4 stars

I loved the movie, and the method acting of Meryl Streep is incredible. She continues acting her role that was iconic 20 years ago. I never get tired of her acting. The supporting Anne, Emily, and Stan Tucci roles are just as excellent. I laughed so hard at Tucci’s TJ MAXX comment. I love the way the designers added more to this movie than in the past. This is a must-see.

Are there any fun throwbacks to the first movie?

I loved seeing the returning characters (and actors), and how each of them grew and matured over the years. A few references were made to the original movie, which was a hoot, and if you hadn’t seen the first movie, you may not have picked up on them. The music was great, as well.

What a great way to spend time with girlfriends or sisters. The movie was full of surprises, fashion, and [I] always love seeing these entertainers together.

What can I say? I absolutely love The Devil Wears Prada, and this reminds me of it. The same score, the same characters interacting again, the callbacks. It was like a warm hug.

Does it honor its predecessor?

A wonderfully mature sequel that deserves its place on the pedestal. I was very worried that they would ruin the memory of these iconic characters. I shouldn’t have been. There are several mature themes that evolve throughout. No, the character development doesn’t blossom as much as you may think. There is no exposition beyond who these characters were originally. Not really. That doesn’t matter, though. Go watch this movie.

Sooooooo good. Hit all the nostalgia it needed to without feeling like a remake. It did a very good job of updating to reflect the changing print market as well. Highly recommend. Would give it more stars if I could. I will most likely be seeing it again in theaters and will definitely be buying it when it comes out in that format.

I absolutely loved The Devil Wears Prada 2. Smart, stylish, and just the right amount of connection to the original. Sequels often struggle to live up to expectations, but this one is a rare exception. The callbacks to the first film are clever without feeling forced, the cast delivers, and the soundtrack is spot on. It’s fun, sharp, and thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. Highly recommend, go see it and have a bloody good time.

Love the continuation of this beloved movie. Characters stayed true to the original, which made it feel like getting together with old friends. Great storyline. As expected, Meryl Streep was outstanding in her role as Miranda Priestly, and Stanley Tucci never disappoints in his acting abilities. Very well done…BRAVO! “That’s all.”
— Melissa S., 5 stars

I enjoyed the remake; the cast was great and delivered. I felt they hit the mark here, and most importantly, did not stomp on the original.
