Eagle-eyed viewers of the new Vince Staples music video over the weekend might have noticed a hat emblazoned with the word “CRYBABY” and a date on the side. No worries if you missed it, because Staples has officially announced his upcoming album CRY BABY will be out June 5. “As the world burns, I have decided to release this album,” the Long Beach rapper said in an emailed statement.
CRY BABY marks Staples’s first full-length since 2024’s Dark Times, his last release under Def Jam. A press release describes CRY BABY as the product of Staples “processing the endlessly repeating cycles of American tumult,” and says the album, built around live instrumentation, will be a “sonic shift.” That suggests there’s plenty more politically savvy guitar music in store following the punk rock-emulating lead single “Blackberry Marmalade” over the weekend.
