‘House of the Dragon’ Teases Its ‘Astronomical’ Third Season

It feels a bit like we just left Westeros when A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms ended in February, but there’ll be no Game of Thrones-adjacent fatigue afoot with season three of House of the Dragon coming up in June. This new behind-the-scenes clip serves as a big reminder of just how different the two shows really are; while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is scaled-down, intimate, and fond of fart jokes, House of the Dragon plays out on a much, much larger scale.

“Astronomical” is the word showrunner Ryan Condal uses to describe the war-torn season three, and we can’t say we disagree.

“The scale’s enormous this season,” promises Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen. Other cast members, including newcomer James Norton as Ormund Hightower, weigh in as we see elaborate sets, brutal fight scenes, and plenty of ships and dragons. George R.R. Martin might not always agree with its changes to his source material, but House of the Dragon reliably delivers operatic drama—and season three looks to keep that going.

Along with Smith and Norton, House of the Dragon season three stars Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, James Norton, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, Abubakar Salim, Tom Cullen, Tommy Flanagan, Dan Fogler, Joplin Sibtain, and Barry Sloane.

You’ll need to remember all of those characters starting June 21, when season three of House of the Dragon arrives on HBO.
