Although Jason Momoa has a packed movie lineup in 2026 with Supergirl, Street Fighter, and Dune: Part Three, the former Aquaman actor says he wants a break as he opens up about feeling detached from acting.

Why Jason Momoa wants to step away from acting for ‘a little bit’

Jason Momoa has been traveling extensively recently as part of his On the Roam docuseries, whose Season 2 hit HBO Max on May 14, 2026. The project has given him a break and allowed him more freedom from his usual cycle of back-to-back roles. In the series, the actor is seen exploring himself on a personal level while learning creative things he never imagined trying.

Speaking to CBR, Momoa revealed how the docuseries has made him want to step away from acting and take a pause for himself. Talking about his newfound love for music, he said, “I’d like to maybe stop f*****g acting a little bit and actually go to school and learn how to play music a little bit more so I could be better, but f**k it, I’m still a work in progress, you know what I mean?”

As for his docuseries, it follows “Jason Momoa as he travels the country chasing art, adventure, and friendship through the lens of craftsmanship,” reads the official logline for the HBO Max TV show.

Speaking about his experience on On the Roam, the actor said, “We get to meet all these beautiful people. And even from like the first season, it’s just, all those people are always in my mind. Generally, I find them on Instagram, and then, you know, you don’t get to see everybody all the time, but you get to see what they’re creating and still making.”

As for his big screen schedule this year, Momoa will next appear as Lobo in DC Studios’ Supergirl movie, which is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
