Kim Petras’s “Jeep” is a Porches-produced Americana anthem

Kim Petras continues her stellar run of singles with “Jeep,” a guitar driven burner with co-production by New York rocker, Porches.

The song is a notable slow down for the club pop singer who’s last single was the high B.P.M. track, literally titled “Need For Speed.” In “Jeep,” Petras sings to a lover who doesn’t understand her, cooing about the inevitability of their romance’s tragedy. It also features some of Petras’s sharpest, most emotionally dense writing yet. “Well we been down this road before / And we both know where it leads / ‘Cuz we got history … And history repeats,” she sings. The song features production by Porches, Nightfeelings, Eric Cross, with additional production by Margo XS, who played a pivotal role in Petras’s forthcoming album, Detour.

The Leonie Miller-Aichholz-directed music video shows Petras and her boyfriend (played by Porches) riding around in the titular vehicle. Largely shot in the French countryside, the cinematic video also ironically feels quite Americana, with the lovers in a truck drinking Monster Energy. All of it is filled with melancholy and continues Petras’s recent musical descent beneath the surface of glittering pop to something grittier and bloodied.
