It has been one hundred days since Nancy Guthrie vanished without a trace from her home in Arizona. Sadly, we’ve heard law enforcement is likely scaling back the investigation at this time. But what hasn’t wavered? The support for Savannah Guthrie‘s mother.
Since her disappearance, people have been leaving flowers and memorial items outside Nancy’s home. It is very touching, and the family no doubt appreciates all the support. However, Nancy’s neighborhood association now wants it to stop.
Per People, Will Pew, the president of the Catalina Foothills Association, wrote in a newsletter sent on Monday that neighbors near the 84-year-old’s home have been “particularly affected” and left “on edge” by her disappearance due to the large number of people who don’t live in the area frequently showing up in the neighborhood. He claimed the association has received several reports of behavior from non-residents that is “disrespectful of neighbors and the surrounding area.” Oof.

While folks mean well with the memorial items, Pew noted there are safety and maintenance concerns due to animals, wind, and rising temperatures in Arizona. He is now asking for supporters to donate to World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization that “Nancy loves,” as a way to honor her instead. Pew concluded:
“Nancy has been a resident of our neighborhood for over 50 years. Her children — like me, my children, and many of yours — attended our local public schools. As with most of us who have lived here for decades, Nancy and her family are rooted in Tucson and the Catalina Foothills, and she and her children and grandchildren have many close friends who are all suffering while waiting for any news of her whereabouts. I urge you to keep Nancy and her family in your thoughts and to respect their privacy. Our homes may be relatively far apart, but we, as neighbors, are closer than ever.”
Look, it is amazing that so many people want to show their love and support for Nancy and her family during an unimaginable situation. But do so respectfully. Other families live in the neighborhood and deserve to feel safe and comfortable in their homes. We can imagine it’s already tough enough to feel that way after the abduction, so please be kind.
