Two men have been stabbed during a dance music event in Birmingham, with police launching a major investigation.

West Midlands Police have said officers were called to Lower Trinity Street in Digbeth, Birmingham on Saturday evening (May 9), shortly before 7pm after reports that two people had suffered stabbing injuries at the ‘Cru2: The Birmingham Shutdown’ event.

Both men were taken to hospital, and their injuries have been described as not life-threatening. No arrests have yet been confirmed by police, with detectives remaining at the scene to carry out inquiries.

The large outdoor event featured a range of bassline, drum ‘n’ bass and UK garage acts, including Mozey, Mist, Basslayerz, DJ Q and Jamie Duggan. It was scheduled to run from 2pm to 11pm at the Luna Springs venue, which hosts club nights, football fan zones and festivals.

According to local reports, the music was stopped abruptly after the incident, with a message appearing on the big screens reading, “There has been an incident. Can everyone please bare [sic] with us”. That was later replaced with, “There has been an incident. Can everyone please leave the venue via the nearest exit.” Those in attendance were then evacuated.

Police have not confirmed where within the venue the stabbings occurred, or what led to the violence. Officers are believed to be reviewing the CCTV evidence and speaking to staff and witnesses as part of their investigation.

West Midlands Police have called on any potential witnesses to come forward, urging anyone with information to call 101 or use the Live Chat option on their website here, quoting the incident number 4320. You can also make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A police spokesperson has said: “We know that they know there were lots of people inside the venue during the time of the incident. So would ask anyone who has any mobile phone footage, or information to come forward and make a report or speak to officers at the scene.”
