Guy Pearce is returning to crime thrillers, and early details already suggest his next film could appeal to layered heist drama fans like The Usual Suspects and The Town. The upcoming movie officially features a cast led by Oscar nominees and Emmy-winning talent as production plans move forward.
What else do we know about the new Guy Pearce crime movie?
As reported by Deadline, Oscar nominees Stephanie Hsu and Guy Pearce, with Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham, will lead their next project, The Teller. It combines psychological tension with a heist-driven storyline set in San Francisco.
The movie follows Violet, a bank teller whose quiet, overlooked life suddenly changes when a rogue FBI agent manipulates her into robbing her own workplace. However, the robbery reportedly serves only as the beginning of a much larger criminal scheme.
The Teller also marks the feature directorial debut of Ben Ripley, who also wrote the screenplay. Ripley enters the project with strong experience in the thriller genre, having previously written the screenplay for Source Code, the sci-fi thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Duncan Jones. He also contributed to films including Flatliners, Boychoir, and Last Days. With The Teller, he now steps into the director’s chair for the first time.
Altitude will handle the International sales for the movie, with the project expected to be introduced to buyers during the Cannes market. Meanwhile, CAA Media Finance and Verve Ventures will handle domestic distribution rights.
The film’s production team includes Martin Brennan for Teller Films UK, alongside Jessica Malanaphy and Samantha Shear. The project will operate as a UK-Irish co-production and plans to begin filming in Northern Ireland later this fall. The post-production work will take place in the Republic of Ireland.
